Helmet

The helmet protects your head in addition to keeping you warm. You get the best of both worlds! Combine it with a ski mask for more warmth.

Goggles

When purchasing goggles, explain to the salesperson in what conditions you will practice your sport. This way, they can recommend lenses adapted to your needs. Goggles also provide protection against UV rays and wind.

Neck warmer

Go for a neck warmer that covers your entire neck, including the back. Make sure you can also cover your mouth and nose. You’ll be glad you did in very cold weather!

Coat

Choose a waterproof coat that is also a windbreaker. The coat should also allow you to move comfortably.

Gloves and mittens

Give priority to waterproof gloves or mittens. If you are sensitive to the cold, consider purchasing glove liners, which will provide added warmth.

Pants

Like your coat, choose pants that are waterproof and protect against wind. Make sure they cover your boots to avoid getting snow in them. Avoid wearing jeans.

Thermal socks

Give priority to socks that are thick, long and flexible. This will help prevent frost bite and blisters. Go for a synthetic fabric instead of cotton.

Choosing skis or a snowboard

Equipment

It’s important to choose your equipment based on your skill level, height and weight. If you’re a beginner, make sure your skis or snowboard are not too long, otherwise you might find it harder to learn. The only skiers who might need larger equipment are children who are growing quickly. For junior skiers, it’s essential to choose the size carefully, as their bodies are proportionately less developed than adults. Our specialists at the SSB Boutique will be happy to advise you in choosing the right equipment.

Ski and snowboard sizes

Equipment

Use this guide to choose the size of equipment that’s right for you. When held upright, your skis should be of a height somewhere between your chin and your eyes. For your snowboard, the height should be between your chin and your nose.
